THE MOUNTAIN’S STORY
Cold rain arrives. The Boy and the Polar Bear find an old cabin with blankets, a fireplace, and room enough for one night. He lights the fire. The Bear takes the warmest part of the floor without discussion. Rain hits the windows. The cabin is close enough to the Cliffside cottages to reach in the morning. For the first time, October feels less like an expedition and more like a holiday.
