DAY 3 · AFTERNOON

The Pumpkin Trail

Lower mountain forest

THE MOUNTAIN’S STORY

A trail of tiny pumpkins leads through the forest. Some are real, some are carved, some hold little lanterns. Nobody admits to placing them. The Boy follows, the Polar Bear several metres ahead. The trail ends at an old campsite: boot prints, bear paws, and something smaller. An abandoned October picnic — blankets, mugs, half-burned lanterns. The Bear sits as though remembering. The Boy lights one lantern. The pumpkin trail glows behind them.

Stay: Pumpkin campsite

Tomorrow: Follow the lights into the fog.

YOUR OCTOBER
