THE MOUNTAIN’S STORY
They take the boat out farther than day 8. The island cove has a second fire ring, old, and a tin cup that is not theirs. Someone camped here in another October and washed up after. The Boy does not remove the cup. The Polar Bear inspects the ring and lies in the place a person would choose if they wanted the cliff at their back. The mountain is a dark comb on the horizon.
