Halfway. Marathon marks are tied to the ridge: not a race yet, a promise of one. Snow is only on the high line. Runners train in coats. The Boy does not run. The Polar Bear watches the runners the way it watches weather. From here the shore and the gate are both visible, and neither looks like the start anymore.
